THE SCHWIETERT LEGACY

Five Generations of Service. One Enduring Calling.

Some professions are chosen.

For our family, chiropractic became a calling.

For more than a century, the Schwietert family has dedicated their lives to serving others. What began generations ago has grown into five generations committed to healing, education, service, and caring for people with compassion and integrity.

While every generation has practiced differently, one thing has never changed:

People have always come first.

Growing up, I never questioned whether chiropractic mattered—I saw its impact every day.

Family gatherings were filled with chiropractors. If someone needed an adjustment, my grandfather, my father, or one of my uncles was always willing to help. Conversations around the dinner table weren’t about business—they were about people. We celebrated the woman who finally became pregnant after years of trying, the rancher who could return to work without pain, the patient whose migraines had finally subsided, and the countless lives changed through compassionate chiropractic care.

Watching my family serve others taught me that chiropractic isn’t simply about relieving pain.

It’s about restoring hope.

It’s about listening well.

It’s about serving people with excellence.

That legacy shaped not only my career but also the way I practice today.

At TEMPL Health, I consider it one of the greatest privileges of my life to continue what previous generations began: serving people with honesty, compassion, excellence, and a deep respect for the incredible way God designed the human body.

THE SCHWIETERT FAMILY TIMELINE

First Generation

John B. Schwietert & Dr. Elizabeth Schwietert

The story begins with John B. Schwietert and Dr. Elizabeth Schwietert, whose commitment to serving others established the foundation for generations to come.

Their lives demonstrated that caring for people is more than a profession—it is a calling. Their example of faith, hard work, integrity, and service became the cornerstone of our family’s legacy.

Second Generation

Dr. Arthur W. (A.W.) Schwietert

Dr. Arthur W. Schwietert became the next generation to carry the family’s calling into chiropractic.

He graduated from the Wiegert School of Chiropractic in 1913 before continuing postgraduate studies at the National College of Chiropractic. As one of chiropractic’s early leaders, he helped shape and advance the profession through clinical practice, education, leadership, and service.

His influence extended well beyond his own practice and helped establish a legacy that continues more than a century later.

Third Generation

Dr. John W. Schwietert

Following service in the United States Navy during World War II, Dr. John Schwietert graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in 1949.

Over the next 59 years, he devoted his life to serving families throughout South Dakota while becoming a respected leader within the chiropractic profession. His commitment to excellence, leadership, and compassionate patient care earned him widespread respect, and the South Dakota Chiropractors Association later established the Dr. John W. Schwietert Spirit of Service Award in his honor.

Fourth Generation

Dr. James “Jim” Schwietert

Dr. James Schwietert graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in 1983 and continued the family’s tradition of exceptional patient care.

Growing up, I spent countless hours in my father’s office. I watched him genuinely love his patients, celebrate their victories, and come home every evening excited about the lives he was able to impact.

While many children heard their parents complain about work, I watched my father live out his calling with joy.

His example taught me that healthcare is never simply about treating symptoms.

It is about loving people well.

Fifth Generation

Dr. Melanie Schwietert

Today, I have the privilege of continuing my family’s legacy through TEMPL Health in Denver.

I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota, where I received extensive training in anatomy, neurology, radiology, biomechanics, diagnosis, rehabilitation, nutrition, and evidence-informed chiropractic care.

Since graduation, I have remained committed to continuing education in chiropractic techniques, nutrition, rehabilitation, soft tissue therapies, and functional wellness so I can continue providing the highest level of care to the patients who trust me with their health.

While I deeply value the legacy that has been entrusted to me, I also believe every generation has a responsibility to continue learning, growing, and advancing the care we provide.

Today, TEMPL Health reflects both the wisdom passed down through generations and a commitment to lifelong learning.

MORE THAN A FAMILY HISTORY

As I look back over five generations, I don’t see a family defined simply by chiropractic.

I see a family defined by service.

Every generation answered the same calling in a different season.

Every generation believed people deserved compassionate, thoughtful care.

Every generation invested in relationships before transactions.

That same philosophy guides TEMPL Health today.

My prayer is that every patient who walks through our doors feels heard, cared for, encouraged, and genuinely loved.

Because while I am incredibly grateful for the legacy behind me, I believe the most important part of this story is still being written.

Every patient, every family, and every life we have the privilege of serving becomes part of that story.

Thank you for allowing me to continue a legacy that began generations ago.

It is an honor to serve you.
